Castellani vests are made of two types of leather. Suede and smooth leather. For trap shooters (ATA, American Skeet, and Olympic Trap) suede is preferred over smooth leather. Suede leather has more grip than smooth leather. The latter is preferred by Olympic Skeet Shooters or Sporting Clay shooters who have to mount the gun as the target is released. However, there are shooters that shoot suede leather in Olympic Skeet or Sporting Clays- it is a matter of personal preference.
